We had originally booked a Japanese-Western style room, but the hotel kindly upgraded us to a superior twin room when they found one available.
The superior twin room was absolutely lovely.
It had apparently been renovated, so it was new, clean, modern, and stylish.
We checked in after taking the Candle Island sightseeing boat and then went straight to dinner.
The dinner venue had spacious seating and we enjoyed a sumptuous seafood meal.
The sashimi was delicious, and the rock oysters were huge!
We were stuffed with meals like wagyu beef shabu-shabu with soy milk and Oki's specialty bomb rice balls.
We had breakfast in a restaurant with a great view of the ocean.
We had to catch the 8:30am ferry so we didn't have much time to enjoy breakfast, but it was delicious.
In addition to the famous mozuku seaweed porridge, you can also get refills of white rice.
Water, orange juice, tomato juice, and milk are available, but coffee is available in the lounge on the first floor.
Everyone at the hotel was polite and we had a comfortable stay, making this a wonderful memory of our wedding anniversary trip.
Gosh, where do I start with this glowing review?? The stunning views? The onsen? The strikingly beautiful kaiseki dinners? The kind staff? This place has it all, folks—complete and utter home run. Didn't want to leave, and next time I'm in Okinoshima I'll have to come back!
Very good hotel.
Room very clean, spacious and comfortable with smart toilet and big shower.
Very kind staff, always ready to help even with the language barrier. (I only speak Portuguese and English)
Good restaurant inside hotel with a lot of good fish.
Only Japanese breakfast that I’m not use to. But they were so kind and made a different breakfast in the last day.
My wife and I came to the Oki Islands to do some research and see the famous Gorei-fuyru festival -- the running of sacred horses through the streets of Saigo Port down to the Tamawakasu-Mikoto Shrine. We settled on the Oki Plaza Hotel both for its superb location and the strength of its reviews. The hotel is in the final stages of a facelift. We were lucky enough to stay in one of the newly renovated corner suites on a high floor. The room itself was spectacular. We've stayed in fine hotels all over the world, but the views and amenities in our room made it stand out as the single best room we've been in. It had commanding 180-degree views of the Sea of Japan and the harbor of Saigo Port. The windows could all be opened, allowing in the beautiful sea air. One of the best features of the room was essentially a private onsen, a cedar tub with its own special view of the harbor. Included in our stay were two meals, breakfast and dinner. The Oki Islands are famous for their seafood, and both the elegant kaiseki dinners and the comprehensive breakfasts featured brilliantly prepared local delicacies. Setting aside the extraordinarily comfortable room and the delicious meals, the hotel staff worked tirelessly to accommodate our plans and requests. If you're an English speaker like us, be prepared to use Google Translate a fair bit. The Oki Islands aren't really set up for English-speaking visitors. But to us, that was a large part of their charm. In short, we can't wait to return to the Oki Plaza Hotel for another visit. We're already making plans!
